The Gospel is the incredible news of what God has accomplished through the life, death, and resurrection of his Son Jesus Christ to redeem and restore a lost world to himself.

The most amazing part is that anyone can receive this gift by repenting of their sins and submitting to Jesus as Lord and Savior. This message is central to our life as a church, and its transforming power is the basis of everything we do. Without the gospel, we don’t exist as a church.

The steady diet of preaching that you will hear at Ozark Baptist will be what is known as “expository preaching.” This approach seeks to make the point of the text the point of the sermon and then applied to the heart of the hearer. This does not mean we will not preach topically from time to time; we certainly will. However, we believe that the power in preaching is found in Christ being clearly and boldly proclaimed in God’s Word.

The first thing Jesus’ followers did after his ascension into heaven was to devote themselves to prayer (Acts 1:14). Prayer isn’t just an individual activity between myself & God but a communal activity where we pray together. As it has been said, “Prayer is an ordinary means to accomplish supernatural ends.” God delights to hear and answer our prayers. For us, prayer will fill our Sunday gatherings & our small groups throughout the week. It will serve as the lifeblood of our church as we take our requests to God on behalf of our church, our community, & the world.

The church’s mission is found in Christ’s commission: to make disciples of all nations. In order to do that we must “go.” Whether that be at home or abroad, to our neighbor, friend, coworker, or relative, we want to share Christ boldly and faithfully so that many may be reconciled to God. To that end, we want to equip God’s people to be faithful to sow the seed of the gospel and to trust God for the growth. We desire that a passion for the lost be central to our life as a church.

Growing in godliness is a team effort. When you look at most of the commands throughout the letters of the New Testament, it takes others in the church to perform them. This is a reminder of how integral the church is in our discipleship to Christ. At Ozark Baptist Church we desire for our discipling ministry to go deep. Our prayer and aim is that we would take ownership for helping one another be more like Jesus by doing deliberate spiritual good to each other.

In 1 John 4:21, the Apostle John says, “whoever loves God must also love his brother.” As God’s people we’re called to be committed to one another. It’s a commitment to carry one another’s burdens and sorrows, to stir up one another to love and good deeds, and to sacrifice comfort and convenience for the spiritual good of another. As a church we know that our community will only be as compelling as it is committed to one another.

What about our musical style? It will be neither wholly “traditional” nor solely “contemporary”—you’ll find it to be blended, featuring both time-tested hymns and modern praise songs. We are committed to “congregational singing,” where the primary instrument is the church’s collective voice. We prioritize songs that are biblically true, theologically rich, musically beautiful, and “congregation-singable.” No matter what song we’re singing—whether it was written a millennium ago or a year ago, whether we’re really “feeling” it or not—we want to worship passionately, singing robustly because Christ is risen.
